I started this year with a firm decision to move more – partly the usual New Year’s Resolution and partly due to turning 40 and wanting to just generally feel better in myself. The Flourish Campaign seemed a good place to start.
The first few weeks were tough. Finding the drive in yourself to get out and about in the rain was hard and the sofa and a glass of wine called me often but I persevered and I am glad that I did. My newly found enthusiasm for the great outdoors has rubbed off on my family and has led to a decision to conquer the Wainwrights! Sundays are now spent walking the fells, eating in the shelter of rocks and reconnecting with my teenagers!
On those days where work and day to day life calls and the fells have to wait, I find ways of fitting in more exercise by after tea walks with the dog, and even some friendly rivalry with the kids on the Wii Fit! If I had to sum up my change in mind-set, I would say I have stopped looking for excuses and started looking for opportunities.
